All 41 laborers trapped in Uttarakhand's Silkyara tunnel have been safely evacuated by rescue workers after a difficult 17-day multi-agency rescue mission that alternated between optimism and despair.

The rescued workers were taken by ambulance to a community health center, where a dedicated 41-bed ward had been built to give them with the necessary medical treatment and care.

Prior to arriving at the community health center, the workers were given a quick medical checkup upon exiting the steel pipe to assure their safety.

On November 12, a part of the tunnel collapsed, obstructing the escape for the workers that were inside.

Food, drugs, and other necessities were brought to the imprisoned workers via a six-inch conduit that was gently pushed.
