Gokulpuri Metro Station Accident: Major accident happened on Gokulpuri Metro, DMRC Announces Compensation, Delhi Government Takes Action

 In the Gokulpuri Metro Accident, one person has died while four others have been injured. One of the injured individuals is in critical condition. The incident is being investigated with seriousness.


Delhi:
Following the Gokulpuri Metro Incident in the North East Delhi District, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced compensation measures. Expressing condolences, the DMRC has pledged financial assistance of 25 lakh rupees to the families of the deceased. Moreover, those severely injured will receive 5 lakh rupees each, while individuals with minor injuries will be granted 1 lakh rupees each. As part of the initial investigation into the Gokulpuri Metro Incident, two officials have been suspended. The severity of the incident is under thorough scrutiny to prevent such occurrences in the future.

On Thursday morning (8th February), a sudden and major incident occurred in the Gokulpuri area, where a large slab, approximately 25 feet in size, suddenly collapsed from the metro station onto the road below. Several scooters and motorcycles with passengers were trapped under the debris. Immediately after the incident, the Delhi Police and firefighters rushed to the scene and promptly rescued five trapped passengers from the debris, transporting them to the nearby GTB Hospital. After examination by doctors, one person was declared brought dead, while treatment continues for the four injured passengers. Among the four injured individuals, three are in stable condition, while one remains in critical condition. 

What did DCP say on the metro accident?

The DCP (Deputy Commissioner of Police) of North East Delhi District, Dr. Joy Tirkey, mentioned that the incident occurred on the eastern side of the metro station, where a significant portion of the station's wall, approximately around 50 meters, suddenly collapsed. Due to the loud noise, the SHO (Station House Officer) and ACP (Assistant Commissioner of Police) immediately arrived at the scene and made efforts to rescue the injured individuals trapped under the debris. In this incident, 5 people were injured, including one with a fractured leg, three with minor injuries, and one severely injured individual who sustained multiple injuries to the head and body and is currently unconscious. Following the incident, with the help of JCB machines, the slab hanging over the road along with the debris was dismantled and cleared to resume traffic flow.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for the Noida district of Uttar Pradesh, Mr. Mohan Yadav, stated that there is no truth to the viral video circulating regarding the metro incident. He mentioned that an investigation into the incident is underway and local authorities have the situation under control. The DCP urged people to remain patient and not believe in rumors.

The Delhi government has taken cognizance of the situation.

Delhi's Cabinet Minister Kailash Gehlot has expressed deep regret over the Gokulpuri Metro incident. He stated that directions have been issued to form a committee of experts to investigate the matter, with a report expected within two weeks. Additionally, he has appealed to the DMRC (Delhi Metro Rail Corporation) to provide compensation within 24 hours.
